Choosing a woman's wedding ring

A wedding ring is worn every day, for decades, often against an engagement ring. That pairing is what to look at first. Try the two together: depending on the height and width of the setting, the wedding ring sits flush against the other ring or leaves a gap between the two bands.

Then comes the question of diamonds. The plain band is the easiest to live with and the easiest to resize. The half-eternity ring keeps the sparkle on top of the hand and bare metal on the palm side, where the ring rubs. The full eternity ring sparkles in every position, but the jeweller has almost no metal left to work on if your finger changes: the size must be right from the moment you order.

Our article on choosing your wedding rings covers widths, profiles and engraving in detail. If the ring has not been chosen yet, see the engagement rings.

Frequently asked questions

Nothing requires it. Two rings worn against each other rub, and two metals of similar hardness are better, for example two 18-carat golds, so that neither wears the other faster. As for colour, you are free: the same gold gives a discreet pairing, two different golds stand out more.

Yes, provided you take care of it. Each small stone is held by very little metal: take the ring off for sport, gardening or housework, and have the settings checked from time to time. The right habits are in our article on caring for diamond jewellery.

Measure at the end of the day, at room temperature, and measure again on another day. Between two sizes, take the larger. During pregnancy, it is better to wait before ordering, especially for a full eternity ring.
